  33. 1.  About Dynamic Gin Version 1.05

  36. Dynamic Gin is a computer version of the classic Gin Rummy card game.
  37. It utilizes a dynamic learning procedure for computer play, which makes 
  38. Dynamic Gin different from most other computer card games. The computer 
  39. play is much less predictable and more like that of a human opponent. 
  40.  
  41. Dynamic Gin runs under Windows 3.1, Windows NT, and Windows 95. It is 
  42. a fully-functional shareware program. You can play and evaluate Dynamic 
  43. Gin free of charge for an evaluation period of 36 days or 30 sessions--
  44. whichever lasts longer. (A session cannot exceed 24 hours.) After that 
  45. time, play is inactivated and you must purchase Dynamic Gin if you wish 
  46. to continue playing (see Purchasing (Registering) Dynamic Gin below).

  48. New features in Version 1.05 include:

  50.   - Options to automatically sort your hand by suit or on the basis of 
  51.     card face value
  52.   
  53.   - An optional dealing method (for Standard and Simple Gin) where the 
  54.     first player receives 11 cards at the beginning of a hand and must 
  55.     immediately discard (or knock) to start play

  57.   - A fourth (Expert) difficulty level

  62. Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware

  89. 3.  System Requirements
  90. =============================================================

  92. Dynamic Gin requires an 80386 or better processor, a mouse, and Windows
  93. 3.1 or later. You need at least 2.1 Mbytes of free hard disk space to
  94. install Dynamic Gin, and Dynamic Gin occupies about 1.8 Mbytes of hard 
  95. disk space once it's installed. Dynamic Gin can run (with some 
  96. limitations) on any VGA display. For best enjoyment of Dynamic Gin 
  97. graphics, you should have a display that supports at least 256 colors.

  101. 4.  Installing Dynamic Gin
  102. =============================================================

  104. To install Dynamic Gin on your computer:
  105.  
  106.     1.  First locate the Dynamic Gin installation program DGSETUP.EXE. 
  107.         If you are installing from a CyberSym Technologies installation 
  108.         disk, make sure the disk is inserted in your disk drive. If you
  109.         have obtained the Dynamic Gin installation package from some 
  110.         other source (e.g. a shareware CD-ROM or an online forum), you 
  111.         may need to decompress the package with a decompression utility 
  112.         before you find DGSETUP.EXE.  
  113.     2.  In Program Manager, select File, Run (if you are using Windows
  114.         95, select Start, Run).
  115.     3.  Type the full path for the DGSETUP.EXE file. (If you are 
  116.         installing from an installation disk, this is A:\DGSETUP.EXE 
  117.         where A is the letter of your disk drive).
  118.     4.  Choose OK.
  119.     5.  Follow the instructions on the screen. 
  120.  
  121. The installation program allows you to choose the location where you 
  122. want Dynamic Gin on your hard drive. The install program searches for 
  123. any previous installation of Dynamic Gin 16-bit edition. If you have a 
  124. previous installation, we recommend you install Dynamic Gin into the 
  125. same location as the previous installation. You will automatically 
  126. retain any Dynamic Gin registration that you had previously activated. 
  127. You will also retain any player configurations you might have 
  128. established under the previous installation (see "Configuring Dynamic 
  129. Gin for More than One User"). 
  130.  
  131. If you install the new Dynamic Gin version into a different location 
  132. and had previously registered Dynamic Gin, then you will need to 
  133. activate the registration for the new Dynamic Gin installation. To do 
  134. this, start the new version of Dynamic Gin, go to Options, Activate 
  135. Registration, and enter the registered user name and user authorization 
  136. code you received when you originally registered Dynamic Gin.

  138. If you are running Windows 95, be aware of the following installation 
  139. issues.
  140.   
  141. a.  Do not install Dynamic Gin into a directory path longer than 66
  142.     characters. This is necessary to keep Dynamic Gin compatible with
  143.     earlier versions of Windows.
  144.  
  145. b.  Folders/subfolders created during installation do not appear in 
  146.     the Windows Explorer until you select the View, Refresh option in 
  147.     the Explorer.
  148.  
  149. c.  If you so choose, the installation program creates a program folder
  150.     (of whatever name you choose) containing several icons. The folder 
  151.     appears under Programs on the Start menu. However, in Windows 95,
  152.     program folders don't automatically stay on your desktop. If you
  153.     want the Dynamic Gin folder to always appear on your desktop (as
  154.     opposed to just on the Start menu), follow these instructions:

  156.     --In the Explorer, find the folder (Dynamic Gin or whatever name
  157.       you chose during installation) which is typically located inside 
  158.       the Programs folder inside the Start Menu folder inside the 
  159.       Windows folder.
  160.  
  161.     --Using the mouse secondary (right) button, drag the Dynamic Gin
  162.       folder to your desktop.  
  163.  
  164.     --Release the folder and select Create Shortcut(s) Here on the
  165.       popup menu that appears.
  166.  
  167.     --When the folder appears on your desktop, select the title
  168.       underneath, and edit the text title to be whatever you want.

  170. Once you have completed the installation, you do not need to keep the
  171. DGSETUP.EXE installation program on your hard disk. It is however a 
  172. good idea to keep a backup floppy disk copy of the Dynamic Gin
  173. installation package (or the original installation disk), including 
  174. DGSETUP.EXE.
  175.  
  176. During the installation process, the install program creates a file 
  177. called INSTALL.LOG in the Dynamic Gin main directory. DO NOT move, 
  178. edit, or delete this file if you ever intend to upgrade or uninstall 
  179. Dynamic Gin.
